Commercial Plants · Dallas Plant Guide · Interior Landscaping

Dallas office managers, facility directors, and business owners ask us the same question all the time: “What plants actually survive in our office?”

It’s a fair question. The DFW business environment presents some specific challenges for interior plants: dry HVAC air, wide temperature swings, and limited natural light in many Dallas high-rise offices.

As Dallas’s original interior plantscaping company — we’ve been at this since 1975 — we’ve tested every plant in nearly every office environment imaginable. Here are the ones that consistently perform best.

1. Pothos — The Indestructible Classic

If we had to recommend one plant for every Dallas office, it would be the pothos. Almost impossible to kill — tolerates low light, irregular watering, dry air, and neglect. Beautiful in elevated planters and on shelving.

Best for: Reception areas, conference rooms, hallways.
Light: Low to medium indirect. Tolerates fluorescent office lighting.
Maintenance: Very low. Water every 1–2 weeks.

2. ZZ Plant — Perfect for Low-Light Offices

Many Dallas office buildings have significant interior space with no natural light. The ZZ plant was designed for these conditions. Glossy dark green leaves stay beautiful under fluorescent lighting indefinitely. Also exceptionally drought-tolerant.

Best for: Interior offices with no windows, dark hallways.
Light: Low to very low. One of the few plants tolerating no natural light.
Maintenance: Minimal. Water every 2–4 weeks.

3. Snake Plant — The Architectural Showpiece

The go-to choice for Dallas law firms, financial offices, and spaces that need to communicate authority. Tall, upright form creates strong architectural presence. Handles dry Dallas air beautifully and rarely gets pests.

Best for: Executive offices, corporate lobbies, law firms, financial institutions.
Light: Low to bright indirect.
Maintenance: Minimal. Water every 2–6 weeks.

4. Kentia Palm — Elegance for Dallas Corporate Spaces

When commercial clients want to make a statement — hotel lobbies, executive reception areas — we reach for the Kentia palm. One of the most elegant indoor palms, with graceful arching fronds. Tolerates low light and dry air remarkably well. Slow-growing and long-lived — a well-maintained Kentia can grace the same lobby for 20 years.

Best for: Hotel lobbies, upscale office entries, conference rooms.
Light: Low to medium indirect.
Maintenance: Low. Water every 1–2 weeks.

5. Peace Lily — The People-Pleaser

One of the few office plants that actually blooms indoors. Excellent air purifier, popular in Dallas healthcare and wellness offices. Dallas tip: peace lilies are sensitive to fluoride sometimes found in tap water — use filtered water or let tap water sit overnight before watering.

Best for: Medical offices, wellness centers, break rooms.
Light: Low to medium indirect.
Maintenance: Low. Water weekly.

6. Fiddle Leaf Fig — For Offices with Good Light

Dramatic and beautiful when they have bright indirect light, consistent watering, and minimal drafts. The most visually stunning plant in any well-lit room.

⚠️ Dallas tip: Keep away from AC vents and exterior doors. Temperature fluctuations from Texas weather swings are the #1 cause of fiddle leaf fig failure in Dallas offices.
Best for: Design studios, tech offices, spaces with large windows.
Light: Bright indirect. East or west-facing windows preferred.
Maintenance: Moderate. Water weekly.
